What A Difference A Day Makes….

The Attensity360 team has been measuring social media buzz throughout the American Idol season to report the most likely contestant to go home.  Have you been following along at IdolStats?  From uncovering fanatic fan dialers to tracking Idol marriage proposals, this season has been a lot of fun, as well as full of surprises.  You can still catch the finale prediction this week!

Last week something interesting happened, which reminds us all that you can’t predict real world events, as much as you can’t predict social media events.  However, measuring social media can surely give you a handle on what is happening around your brand, competitive brands or key industry issues – in real time, as well as across a longer-term horizon. Since there are only two contestants left, naturally we want to predict the season’s winner. It may be a little tougher this season than in the past. On the one hand, we have a solid performer who performed consistently well throughout the show. On the other hand, we have a contestant who “broke through” last week, and boy! Did he break through!

Last week Lee Dewyze gave an amazing performance – the most amazing performance of his Idol career, and quite possibly the best performance of his life. It did not go unnoticed by the judges or by social media.  As early as the day after last week’s performance, the social media buzz showed him as a clear winner for that week.  We highlighted this development in last week’s blogpost prediction.  This trendline really drives home the story — a single performance on a single day is enough to create a new star. Will Lee’s star shine brightly this week? Or will Crystal cement her legacy as one of the top rated performers of the season?  Let’s see how things go this week!
